We invite submissions for the first of the two panels in the mini-conference on knowledge production in political science. This panel will focus on the critical gap between research produced in English and non-English languages. Political science, as a discipline, is predominantly driven by English-language scholarship, often overshadowing valuable contributions from non-English-speaking scholars.
This panel seeks to explore the implications of this linguistic divide on theoretical development, empirical findings, and policy relevance. We welcome papers that critically analyze how language barriers affect the dissemination and reception of political science research, the underrepresentation of non-English perspectives in mainstream discourse, and the challenges and opportunities for integrating diverse linguistic contributions. Submissions may address comparative studies of political phenomena, methodological innovations for inclusive research practices, or case studies highlighting significant yet overlooked non-English scholarship. By bringing together diverse linguistic perspectives, this panel aims to foster a more inclusive and comprehensive understanding of global political dynamics. Researchers from all linguistic backgrounds are encouraged to contribute their insights on bridging this gap and enriching the field of political science.
