The IPSA Committee on Organization, Procedures, and Awards (COPA) is pleased to announce that T.V. Paul (McGill University) has been selected as the recipient of IPSA’s newly established Kim Dae-jung Award. In recognition of this honor, Prof. Paul will participate in the Kim Dae-jung Award Roundtable at the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science on 14 July 2025. The focus of the roundtable will be on global peace, democracy, and human rights.
The IPSA Committee on Organization, Procedures, and Awards (COPA) is pleased to announce that Hyeong-ki Kwon has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Karl Deutsch Award. As part of this prestigious recognition, Prof. Kwon will deliver the Karl Deutsch Prize Lecture, titled Openness and Coordination: National Economies of the U.S., Japan, and Germany in a Globalized World, at the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Seoul on 14 July 2025.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Francesca Longo (IPSA Executive Committee member, Italy) and Min Hee Go (WC2025 Local Organizing Committee member, South Korea) as ombudspersons for the World Congress. Two short Research Methods Courses (RMC) are offered in conjunction with the 28th IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Seoul, South Korea, on 12 July 2025. Given by renowned international instructors, these in-person courses offer state-of-the-art information about recent advances in research methods across various fields.
They attract both junior and senior scholars interested in these fields and in the recent developments that have helped enhance their respective research.
IPSA is pleased to announce that Professor Neera Chandhoke will be a plenary speaker at the 2025 IPSA World Congress in Seoul on 16 July 2025.
Her keynote, titled Legal Autocracy in South Asia, will examine how autocrats in the region undermine democratic institutions through legislation while maintaining the facade of democracy. Prof. Chandhoke will explore the factors behind their enduring popularity, including the use of populist strategies that exploit fears and historical conflicts in pluralistic societies.
Track chairs are currently reviewing over 6,000 paper submissions and 800 panel proposals for the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Seoul. Notification emails regarding the acceptance of proposals will be sent on 22 January 2025. Early bird registration for the World Congress will also open on that date.
IPSA is pleased to announce that travel grants are available to World Congress participants who live and work in developing economies and have a role in the Congress Program.
The Travel Grant application period is from 4 December 2024 to 5 February 2025.

We are thrilled to announce that we received over 6,000 paper and 800 panel submissions in response to the Call for Proposals for the 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Seoul. Notably, submissions from the Asia-Oceania region were particularly strong, with more than 2,000 paper proposals - one of the highest regional representation rates in recent years.
