Bio

Carlos de la Torre is professor at the Center for Latin American Studies, University of Florida. He has a Ph.D. in Sociology from the New School for Social Research. His areas of research are populism, democratization, and authoritarianism. He had fellowships of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He is the author of nine volumes and ten edited or coedited books. His most recent publications are, Populism and Fascism, Elements in the History and Politics of Fascism, Cambridge University Press, 2025; Global Populisms with Treethep Srisa-nga, New York: Routledge Press, 2021, Spanish updated version Populismos Globales Buenos Aires: Prometeo 2024. He edited The Routledge Handbook of Global Populism, New York: Routledge Press, 2019.
