Violence against women in politics

Description

In the broad discussion of why women do not enter politics, the role of violence is inescapable. That there is a relationship between inequality and violence, including gender inequality and gender violence, is also known. The papers on this panel look at the stigmatisation of women in politics and the stereotypes into which they are slotted. They study the verbal political abuse that is commonplace in patriarchal polities. The role of social media is studied--does it exacerbate this trend? And finally, can one establish a correlation between gender inequality and a greater toleration of political violence?
