The panel presents five papers examining mass and elite level political (primarily affective) polarization and its consequences in Argentina, Brazil and Latin America regionally since 1990. Using qualitative, experimental, and survey research, the papers investigate both the negative and positive consequences for party systems, political participation, and democracy writ large.
