Description

For a long time, we have now moved away from thinking about development in terms only of income and productivity to speaking about the quality of life of citizens. How long and how well do they live? Do they eat well? Are they able to get an education? All of these are determined also by gender politics. Maternal health politics is one measure of this. Community health and public health policy were important factors in the way states dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic, and they are concerns on this panel. Finally, women's safety on campuses and women's participation in campus politics are addressed by papers here, insofar as campuses can be cradles of both gender equality values and democratic values. Together, the diverse papers included here allow us to ask questions about what it would mean to have a human development politics that places citizens, if not human beings, at the centre?
