Description

Democracy rests on the premise that elected representatives stand and act for the represented. When harassment, intimidation and violence inhibits elected representatives, candidates, party and parliamentary staff, and party activists from their engagement, both electoral integrity and democratic legitimacy are harmed. In this panel, we focus on political actors’ experiences of harassment, intimidation and violence in politics, and institutional measures to address this, within established democracies and beyond.
