The geopolitics of energy is a critical field of study, exploring how technological advancements and key actors shape global energy dynamics. It has recently gained increased attention and played a growing role in shaping the policy trajectories in contemporary societies, thus occupying the agendas of many governments.
This panel examines the intersection of energy technologies—such as renewable energy sources, nuclear power, and fossil fuels—and the geopolitically-oriented strategies of state and non-state actors. It also aims to highlight how the transition to low-carbon technologies alters traditional energy alliances and creates new power dynamics in future energy systems. This panel will discuss the role of major energy producers, consumer nations, multinational corporations, and international organizations, emphasizing their influence on global energy security, distribution of available resources, and global power shifts. It will also address the emerging challenges and opportunities presented by technological innovations, including the impact on energy independence, market sensibility and (un)stability, and environmental sustainability. By intellectually engaging with the experts and practitioners and discussing the evolving landscape of energy geopolitics, the panel is expected to provide insights into the future trajectories of global energy governance and the strategic maneuvers of key actors/stakeholders. The expected outcome of the panel is to produce a joint commentary with fellow participants.
