War and State Formation from History to the Present Day

Description

The idea that war made the state is fundamental to our understanding of politics, yet it has been often shunned by political science due to the paucity of international war and lesser attention to the state. This panel intends to bring the state and war back into our discussion by looking at how this paradigm applies to different regions of the world both in the past and in the present. The panel benefits from a revival of the theory after being recently proven to work in Latin America and other latitudes, and a pressing need to understand these dynamics given the transformative dynamics that war has generated in the Israeli, Russian, and Ukrainian states (directly affected by war) as well as other states under increasing geopolitical pressure.
