Resisting Autocratization in Latin America: hopes, perils and cases

This panel aims to discuss concrete (un)successful cases of resistance to autocratization in Latin America, focusing the role of “non-traditional” actors such as the (a) military officials, (b) judges and judicial system operators, (c) bureaucrats, (d) business associations and corporate leaders, (e) political parties, and (f) civil society organizations/movements engaged in political leadership development in protecting liberal democracy from its enemies. We welcome paper focused on all types of strategies, tactics, and practices of political action, such as agenda-setting, issues management, civic mobilization, disobedience, and political communication – among others. This panel is organized and chaired by the OAS School of Governance.
