Description

In 2024/25, few parts of the world are unaffected by the changes wrought by the climate crisis. Floods, heat waves, cold waves, storms are all becoming more common. Each occurrence underscores the continued lack of preparation on the parts of national and local governments as well as the reality that social inequality is replicated in the mitigation, relief and reconstruction stages. Patriarchal gender relations, as they play out in private and public spheres, are an important variable in building climate resilience as well as in mitigating disasters.
The papers in this panel spotlight women's experiences of climate and other disasters around the world.
