Description

The European Union has become one of the major destination for migrants from around the world, especially its periphery (the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe). The challenges to process and absorb mass migration has placed Europe in a quandary, forcing it to make decisions on whom to accept and under what conditions and whom to reject and how to repatriate. The result has been a constantly evolving asylum and refugee system, which not always adheres to best practices. This panel explores the constantly evolving system of asylum and refugee settlement in Europe by focusing both on the responses of the various members of the European Union and the role that its neighbors play on all stops of the asylum and refugee chain.
