Description

This panel aims to examine the interconnections between climate change, environmental policies and social protection through the lens of institutional actions. These issues are critical for contemporary states, demanding a comprehensive analyses of policies and guidelines from both central/national and subnational governments responsible for implementing environmental actions and combating climate change as they face the social consequences of increasingly frequent disasters. In order to achieve the social and environmental objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, researchers need to investigate the social consequences of climate change and the role of the State in protecting environmental and social rights. Key questions for discussion include: How have governments across the ideological spectrum incorporated this agenda? What role do the judiciary and social movements play in the formulation and implementation of environmental and climate change policies? Additionally, how does social protection policies contribute to achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda? These inquiries aim to promote the debate on these critical issues.
