What are the challenges and opportunities that climate change poses for national security, including forced migration, competition for natural resources, and increased risks of international conflicts?
This Open Panel, organized by the Research Committee RC37 “Rethinking Political Development”, aims to explore the links between climate resilience, national security and conflict prevention through a multidisciplinary and international approaches. Understanding of policies and strategies that can be employed to mitigate the impacts of climate change while strengthening national security and preventing international conflict.
In this Panel, we explore the integration of climate resilience policies into national security strategies in order to meet environmental challenges, but also to contribute to global stability. The panel will address these questions:
—How can states work together to build climate resilience while ensuring their national security?
—What are the international best practices in preventing climate-related conflicts?
—How can sustainable development policies be aligned with national security strategies?
We encourage interested IPSA researchers and students to submit their research proposals, case studies or concrete examples. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a global discussion on crucial issues of our time and to exchange with international colleagues.
