Digital Misinformation and Women’s Political Voice in Polarized Societies

In today’s polarized societies, digital misinformation poses a rising threat to women’s political engagement and voices. The rapid spread of fake news and disinformation through digital platforms often targets women, especially those in leadership and activism roles, subjecting them to harassment, false narratives, and attempts to discredit their influence. This has created a challenging environment for women who wish to participate fully in political processes and public discourse.
This panel seeks papers exploring the impact of digital misinformation on women’s political roles, as well as strategies for countering these challenges. Topics may include the effects of online harassment on women’s political activity, the need for digital literacy and protection programs, and policy solutions to combat gender-based disinformation.
