Cities have certain characteristics that differentiate them; however, they share similarities, mainly because they are spaces that concentrate a large amount of population and require multiple services to cover their basic needs. For example: housing, transportation, security, recreation, etc. This panel will explore, through some papers and the debate on them, how urban policy and governance can be used to understand and improve certain services or spaces in cities.
The papers presented here address the urban transformation resulting from the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games in the host cities (Beijing and London), how heritage sites are promoted in the Province of Antique (Philippines), the use of spaces for cultural production in Berlin, the effects of the lack of planning in the city of Cebu (Philippines) and the promotion of cycling from civil society in Poland.
