Description
Cities, municipalities, and provinces are crucial actors in the global economy as they may have autonomy to attract investments by creating comparative advantage vis-à-vis other subnational units. Yet, only recently the field of International Political Economy (IPE) has started to unpack how domestic governments other than the central/federal administration can exert an active role in foreign markets, including in trade-related matters. The papers that comprise this panel offer a variety of perspectives on the topic, including the discussion on the effects of subnational politics on international flows of investment and trade in authoritarian contexts.
