Description

Access to energetic resources is key for creating power asymmetries in the global order at least since the onset of the First Industrial Revolution, in the transition from the 18th to the 19th Centuries. However, although the world already witnesses the rise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution amidst growing calls for states and corporations to actually be committed to sustainable practices, fossil fuels remain relevant in gaining edge vis-à-vis competitors in both economic and political terms. The panel brings together papers that discuss under various methodologies the impact of renewable and non-renewable sources of energy in impacting power shifts as geopolitical and geoeconomic competition gets fiercer.
