An Emerging New World Order and BRICS System

The last expansion of BRICS and the meteoric rise in membership applications from countries of the global south are gradually elevating the status of BRICS in global politics. This trend also suggests that countries from the Global South seeking status in the system perceive BRICS as the symbol of status enhancer. In addition, establishing NDB and highly polarized world politics inevitably assist the BRICS in shaping the norms and behaviour, thereby changing the existing structure to usher in the new world order. Frustrations and disappointment with the existing structure, further encourage these countries of the Global South to build a new order that promotes and protects their diverse interests. The panel aims to bring scholars from different parts of the Global South to deliberate and bring diverse perspectives on the topic. The panel also problematises the proposition that BRICS creates a new structure for the emerging world order, given that members of BRICS are beneficial and comfortable in the existing order. Moreover, BRICS members are not in unison to push BRICS as a catalyst for a new world order.
